Effectiveness of Invisalign

For more than 20 years, the Invisalign system has discreetly and effectively improved the smiles of millions of dental patients, including many who visit our Torrance dentist.

Invisalign is one of our most requested treatments because it has such a wide appeal. The alignment trays are clear, so most people will not notice you wearing them. Patients must remove Invisalign trays before eating or drinking anything except water. Because the trays are removable, the food restrictions common for other braces are not a problem. Invisalign patients receive new alignment trays about once a month; this eliminates painful tightening and adjustments endured by patients wearing traditional braces. It is easy to see what attracts patients to Invisalign. However, many patients ask our Invisalign dentist in Torrance if the Invisalign system is effective.

The treatment is highly effective and receives excellent reviews from patients and professionals. There are a few circumstances where Invisalign excels as the best option for orthodontic care.

• PROPERLY ALIGNING TEETH- Our patients with misaligned teeth love the fact that Invisalign repositions their teeth without the pain and inconvenience of metal braces.
• CORRECT VARIOUS BITE PROBLEMS- Invisalign is a great option for our patients with the following bite problems:

  • Crossbites
  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Openbites

There are a few situations where our dentist would not suggest Invisalign as a treatment option. These include:
• A tooth rotation of more than 20 degrees- Invisalign cannot compensate enough to turn a tooth that is greatly rotated
• A tooth incline of more than 45 degrees- For an extreme incline, traditional braces are the best patient option
• Patients with dental implants- Because Invisalign works by pushing teeth into their best position, the stationary nature of implants means they will not move
• Patients who have dental bridges- Dental bridges are not meant to move, as we see with implants, the Invisalign system works by moving teeth and Invisalign would be a poor choice for those with bridges.

Invisalign is a wonderful option for many of our patients. If you would like to learn more about how Invisalign can help you, please contact our office.

How to Ensure Teenagers Use Invisalign Correctly

Aligners Focus - 6

So many of our orthodontics patients are teenagers who are delighted that the Invisalign Teen system can correct their smiles without painful wires and a mouthful of metal.

Two decades ago the Invisalign alignment tray system gave adult patients the option to correct smile imperfections using thin and transparent trays which fit on top of teeth and gently push the teeth into their proper position. Instead of a year and a half or longer, patients could shed their Invisalign trays after 12-18 months.

The concept of the Invisalign system is straightforward, however, the success depends on how well a patient complies with the Invisalign directives. These include wearing the alignment trays for 20-22 hours every day. Taking the aligners out before eating or drinking and cleaning the aligners thoroughly before putting the tray on the teeth.

This dental regimen is one reason, which for many years Invisalign was an orthodontic option just for adults. Another reason the system was only for adults is that the alignment trays could not adapt to growing mouths and erupting molars.

The company created Invisalign Teen as a way to answer the requests for an Invisalign system suitable for teenagers. The system conquers the most significant obstacles to Invisalign for younger patients, growth, and compliance.

The most significant design differences between the traditional Invisalign system and Invisalign Teen is that the teen system can adjust to meet the challenges of erupting molars and growing jaws. Invisalign Teen has a tab that is designed to allow room for jaw growth and the eruption of molars.

Because lack of compliance makes the Invisalign system ineffective, creators of Invisalign Teen added a small compliance indicator as a part of the alignment trays. If your teen is wearing the aligner as directed, a blue dot on the tray will gradually fade. Parents who notice the slowly vanishing dot, know their teen is wearing their aligners correctly and do not need to be concerned about alignment trays which stay in the case and not on the teeth.

If you would like to learn more about ways to know if your teen is complying with their Invisalign directions, feel free to contact our office we are happy to help.

Is Invisalign an Option for Me?

Doctors Showing Aligners - 3

When it comes to orthodontics, there are several treatment methods and Invisalign is one of them. Here are some of the reasons Invisalign can be your best bet.

Invisibility

Invisalign is the most popular clear aligner. It is transparent so when you put it on, nobody will notice it at all. This is why most of our patients prefer it over metal braces. They say metal braces attract attention when they smile, laugh or speak in public. But with a clear aligner that is invisible, they are more comfortable.
Ease of removal

It is very easy to remove Invisalign aligners and put them back in. You can easily take the aligners out for eating, brushing and flossing, and during sports activities.

Effectiveness

This option is very effective in straightening your teeth and correcting other dental anomalies. It is custom-designed so it fits snugly to your teeth. It gradually moves each tooth vertically, horizontally, or rotationally until every tooth gets to their right position.

Consult with our Invisalign dentist in Agoura Hills to find out if this option is right for you.

Invisalign for New Patients

Doctors Showing Aligners - 3We all want to have an immaculate smile. Some of us just don’t have that kind of luck. That’s why so many people have turned to Invisalign. These clear plastic aligners are the perfect solution to setting a smile straight.

The treatment process begins with your first consultation. This is necessary to establish whether Invisalign treatment is right for you. The best way to find out is by visiting an Invisalign dentist in Torrance. From there, your doctor will make a custom treatment plan. By scanning your mouth, they can create 3D images, which get sent off to a lab. They will arrive and the orthodontist will help you set them in your mouth. You’ll have to wear your clear aligners 22 hours a day, only taking them out to eat and brush and floss your teeth. Otherwise, they’ll have to be in. That’s the only way to get results.

As a new patient wears them, their teeth will gradually move into perfect position. From here, it may be recommended that patients wear a new aligner every week. This will ensure that the treatment is taking. After several months, your doctor will recommend a retainer. This is the only way to ensure that everything is kept in its proper place.

New patients have to be vigilant when it comes to Invisalign. Not only is oral hygiene important, but wearing your aligners as many as 22 hours per day is the only means of getting results. The convenience of being able to take them out has advantages and disadvantages. Most people won’t even notice that someone is going through treatment because the aligners are so transparent. You’ll be able to do the things you’re used to while straightening your teeth at the same time. The benefits are clear.

Is Invisalign Good for Teenagers?

Many adults are opting for Invisalign rather than conventional braces to straighten their teeth. This is because Invisalign is clear and more aesthetic than metal braces. Teens are also strong candidates for Invisalign. Our orthodontist can help you and your teen decide if Invisalign is a good option.

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign Teen aligners are clear, removable, smooth and comfortable. Invisalign uses precise measurements for a completely customized treatment solution that fits your teen’s needs. They straighten teeth without visible brackets or wires, and each aligner progressively moves teeth until your teen’s smile is straight, balanced and healthy.

The aligners can be taken out, which means your teen can easily brush and floss her teeth and eat any food without being warry of damage. She can also participate in all her favorite activities, including band or athletics, without interfering with her orthodontic treatment schedule.

The teen-friendly version of Invisalign has several features just for teens, including the Blue Dot indicator to keep your teen on track. Eruption tabs are available to accommodate growing jaws. Replacement aligners are also a possibility. Call our office today to learn more about Invisalign options for teens or to schedule your consultation with our dentist in San Francisco.

Invisalign and How It Works

Doctors Showing Aligners - 4

Invisalign is an orthodontic appliance that is preferred by many patients today. This is usually true for many reasons. The benefits of Invisalign include:

  • Discretion – the aligners used are virtually see-through
  • Comfort – the aligners are also seamless, without the bulkiness and pointiness of traditional braces
  • Removability – the appliance is easily removable, so patients can eat their favorite foods and clean their teeth without difficulty

Where braces work by pulling the teeth into place, Invisalign aligners push the teeth together. Our Rocklin orthodontics team will supply you with your first aligner, which will begin applying pressure to the teeth. It will be worn for about two weeks before the patient much move on to the next one in the set. Each one will apply pressure in order to slowly move the teeth toward more correct, healthier positions.

While it may seem like the process takes a long time, it has been proven that orthodontic treatment works best when exacted slowly. Depending on the patient’s specific case, treatment can take between twelve and eighteen months.

Invisalign is best for patients with mild to moderate orthodontic issues. Talk to our orthodontist to see if this appliance will work for you.

Invisalign and How It Works

How Invisalign Moves the Teeth

Aligners Focus - 6Invisalign is the orthodontic treatment preferred by many patients today. Those who require orthodontic work will request this appliance, but we find that most do not know how it actually works. Here is a description of how Invisalign works to move the teeth.

Traditional braces use brackets that are bonded to each tooth, and wires that are threaded through them. These wires are tightened periodically throughout treatment in order to pull the teeth into place. Invisalign works very differently. Instead of brackets and wires, it utilizes trays that fit around the arches like mouth guards. These Invisalign aligners push the teeth into place. Depending on the type and length of your treatment, you could get between ten and thirty aligners, each custom made for your smile.

When first worn, each aligner will fit just a little bit too tight. This is to apply pressure to the teeth in order to move them into straighter, healthier positions, bit by bit. Our Invisalign dentist in Torrance will keep track of your progress at appointments periodically throughout your treatment. A 3D digital model of your smile will also be used in order to show you the ideal development of your teeth movement, and compare with your actual progress.

Our cosmetic dentist in Torrance can answer any questions you may have about the Invisalign process.
